Collecting Pleasures

Collecting can be easy, simple, enjoyable, bring much pleasure and fun as well.Sometimes though it can  become serious,time consuming,taxing,create rifts and friction etc.The bottom line is there are two sides of it so choose wisely.Sadly though many get dragged into the path which brings more unhappiness than joy or pleasure.So, the question is, how come?
Collecting is all about fun so first and foremost you got to decide on what you gonna collect, it should be the items that you fancy most.There are a host of things you can collect, its your call, i for one started collecting fishing reels some time back, in fact i collected anything related to fishing,some encouraged,some sceptical and some critical  but i remember this particular incident when i was buying a vintage fishing reel, a curious vintage watch seller said" Apa lah main mesin pancing, ni bukan antik, orang tak main benda ni, orang main jam tangan lah, ni baru antik"( reels are not antiques,watches are, and people dont buy reels as antiques), i just smiled and said that, i enjoyed fishing very much(at that time)and loved fishing stuffs and that i respected his view.
A few months later when the  Berita Harian GP joran boom hit the country, every angler wanted vintage reels and lo behold, the bloke who told me off about collecting fishing reels offered me a nice reel for a reasonable price." Nak jadi cerita kan".
So lets see what you can collect

Coin Box- there are older castiron/metal ones mostly given out by the banks.(u can see one at the background UMBC(plastic).My Friend Mr.C  is a ardent coinbox collector.

The list is endless.You can collect anything under the sun if you like and have the money and time to spend on it.One last story to share before i sign off is about the same bloke who told me off about collecting reels.He continues to trade for a living in the same place and guess what does he sells these days besides watches/clocks? CEREK ELEKTRIK( ELECTRIC KETTLE)!  i met him last month and enquired whats the story behind the electric kettle? he answered" SEKARANG ORANG KOLEK NI !
I asked him" NI ANTIK KER?( is it antique?)" he replied" BUKAN KIRA ANTIK,ATAS PADA ORANG NAK KOLEK"( its all up to what one wants to collect).My oh My.What a wonderful world!

AIR LAMNED@AERATED WATER INCORPORATED

Aerated water is fondly known as air lamned among the malay community in Malaysia (Boleh).Just walk into any kampung and ask for ayer lamned and they will oblige and show you one.The local kingpins of the Aerated Water without doubt has to be FRASER AND NEAVE PTE LTD from the Straits Settlements.They continue to rule to this very day and the logo of the mighty LION serves justice to it.

Anyway there were also other players aka competitors, the small timers, the posers,the short lived ones, the underachievers and the obsure and forgotten pretenders.I remember purchasing a pamphlet on the local aerated water companies, it was more like a case study and if i am not mistaken, it was compiled by Mr.Megat from Kuala Lumpur.It was more on the bottles and practically covered  almost every state in Malaysia.I was fascinated by that and started to collect items related to the aerated water industry.Bottles were hard to come by but glasses were in abundance, advertistment were also quite easily available as long as you showed them the MONEY!., bottle openers, coasters, trays, etc.You just name it.

Lets look at some of the items.

Got  the voucher(got extras) from a chinese gentlemen who sadly had to vacate his home which sat on a piece of land earmarked for development.He let me go through a stack of items which he wanted to throw away, the vouchers were actually a "cover" for a stack of "bizniz cards" from neighbouring Thailand.

I think  i will  save the rest for future postings.To sum it up, Aerated Water collectibles are very cool and create an old feel deco when you display them right..My Frens Mr.Halim and Mr.Lan from Perak are masters in  Aerated water deco.Nice guys with a sharp eye for interior deco oldschool style.

Relearning Blogging

Serious tittle? Nah! dont be deceived.Perception can lead to deception.Getting more serious? hehehehe.Well lets mellow down then.Seriously.opssss! Honestly,this blog has long been dormant , though writing  brings much pleasure to yours truly, procastination seems to be a bloody hard habit to kick. Giving excuses for procastinating is yet another issue itself, nevertheless  a casual chat with a gentlemen from penang lead to this 2nd step foward in the relearning process.Blog again , he said, i said alright sir, so here i go again own my  own.So whats in store this time around? Bicycle related.So read on.

Pamphlets from the 50s, namely the nite-rider, haco and Helios.Have another 6 , namely Union,Rambler,GB,Speedwell,Golden Hawk and Tashenlampenhunsen. The pamphlets are very colourful and contain many useful details for the bicycle club members.Got this from a collector who has a vast collection of his own filling up a flat to its brim..

Post Ramadhan -Welcoming Syawal!

First and foremost my sincere SELAMAT HARI RAYA MAAF ZAHIR BATIN greetings to all who have visited this humble blog of mine , customers, potential customers, fellow dealers, bloggers, friends from the swinging schooldaze rules, runners, pickers, followers and commentors alike.I hope those who celebrated eidulfitri had a wonderful time with their loved ones and those who didint had a wonderful time too visiting muslim friends to share the joy of syawal.So what happened during ramadhan?
There was a short break in terms of hunting and picking during ramadhan due to time constraint at my workplace nevertheless i did pick a few nice items which brought in the extra cash needed during this festive season.I learnt how to put my foot down on matters pretaining to lopsided friendships.I had to move on but always didnt have heart and mental strength to do so but this time around i finally did it.Amazingly a long lost buddy of mine popped up out of the blue.A surprise compensation indeed.
So what is in store for syawal?
Well, i will have to work under a new immediate boss and the 1 st task which has been giving to me is to go on a walkabout with the boss, hold dialogues with a few groups unhappy over the departure of my previous boss and unhappy too about certain issues with current management.I also need to draw up new plans with work rotation etc.
Thats about work.What about play? well, got to explore some new grounds and check out a couple of new pickers i have come to know but havent met in person.Heard that there have some mighty nice collectibles stashed in the storeroom.wish me luck.

Football collectibles

Greetings and salutations alike to all .Hope everyone had been keeping up well all this while as this blog was busy collecting dust and cobwebs.Nevertheless the allure of writing got the better of me ,so here i am.lets see whats in store after the long hiatus.

Obviously as the tittle gives it away, i would like to share some of the football stuffs i had picked along the road less taken.First up just take a look at the Arsenal club flag for the 78-79 season FA cup Final.Guess the opposing team in that epic final.

well the answer can be seen in the pendent on the left, The gunners against the devils.Who won anyway?

The pendent in the middle is for the 1966 world cup winning England national team.

The Kop pendent is on the right.So all liverpool fans , You never walk alone mate!

Finally for the Hammers and spurs fans.1980 FA cup final hammers .

Cerebos Salt

Cerebos table salt containers .2 different types.The one on the left has a glass lid and obviously the partner has a plastic lid with embossed writings and picture."See How It Runs" was the company motto implying how fine was the salt produced.The also had a picture of a boy chasing a bird, as seen on the lid.The contairners all came in embossed writings , including cerebos salt in front and at the bottom Made in England.

Fanta Collectible

For sale: 1950s german made GOGGO scooter advertistment/flyer/pamphlet.4 printed side.A small cutout at the bottom of the 3rd page.Beside that its in great condition.

I recently found/picked this item.A nice find.A letter opener with a a small knife which functions like a multipurpose penknife.Both sides of the letter opener have markings of the word Players Please and the knife has the markings made in england and on the reverse some other wordings.The main blade can be folded and hides a file as well.A cool piece indeed.

Happy Teachers Day

Its teachers day tomorrow in Malaysia.Decided to put up a post in honour of those awesome and towering teachers i have met along the way.Also dedicated to all those wonderful teachers who shared their experience and knowledge with much love and respect.Who made me what i am today.Who continue to to inspire me to explore, engage ,and endevour. SELAMAT HARI GURU!

One of my favourite reads,the legendry PAK PANDIR and his bungling adventures.My childhood collection has gone with the wind but i found this very nice piece some time back.The colurs are vivid and so alive. Just take a look

The love for reading continues to this very day and i am most grateful and thankful to my teachers for that.However my writing was a wreck!.I had very poor handwriting despite having my dad and my teachers supplying me a load of pencils .Take a look

A host of pencils as seen in the picture, some made in England, France, Germany and old Germany @ Bavaria. The familiar brand names are Venus, Steadler and the odd one out is the TJAP Ikan from bavaria.So did my handwriting improve? Silence is golden!

Eat The Frog

Salam and salutations alike.Ignore the tittle. Nuthing to do with my diet . Its the tittle of a wonderful book about TIME MANAGEMENT which as of late has been a major headache to me.

A change at the top in my workplace has seen me sliding downhill ever since.You wouldnt believe the schedule and the things that i have to do .But i m not gonna delve too much into that.Let it be.Then i got sick( viral infection) and the blog went dead for almost a month.As i recovered my other half was sent to the sick bed and in fact is still recovering.

Enough about my lament.Lets see whats in store for the day.

ERRES 1959 calender.Each page comes witha picture of a city and a product as seen in the second picture.In very good condition.The final page has pictures of all the products by ERRES, a popular company from the yesteryears based in Holland.This includes fans,tv,radio, gramaphone, drill,dryer,vacuum, turntable etc. I am sure many collectors have the ERRES table fan or the valve set radio.

The calender is in very good condition and would make a very nice pin up in your home.The pictures are clear and colourful.Please do sms/call me at 017-5232979 for booking/info.
